   Preparation method  

To prepare chloroauric acid hydrate powder (HAuCl₄·xH₂O), start by dissolving gold foil or gold powder (approximately 1 gram) in concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl), and introduce chlorine gas (Cl₂) or hydrogen chloride gas (HCl) to oxidize the gold. The reaction forms chloroauric acid (HAuCl₄) in solution. Next, concentrate the solution by gently heating it to evaporate some of the water, resulting in a more concentrated gold(III) chloride solution. Allow this solution to sit in a dry environment or gradually evaporate the solvent, causing chloroauric acid to crystallize as a hydrate, typically as a monohydrate or trihydrate. Once crystals form, filter or centrifuge to separate them, then dry the crystals under vacuum or at a low temperature to remove excess water, yielding the pure chloroauric acid hydrate powder. Handle the material carefully, as chloroauric acid is highly oxidizing, and ensure the use of proper safety equipment, including gloves, goggles, and a fume hood, as chlorine or HCl gas is corrosive.
