Product Description:

What is Poly(dimethylsiloxane)(PDMS)

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a mineral-organic polymer of the siloxane family, often referred to as silicone. It consists of repeating dimethylsiloxane groups and has a chemical structure of [−Si(CH₃)₂O−] n, PDMS has the following characteristics:

  • Stability: PDMS has excellent chemical stability and does not react easily with other substances.

  • Transparency: It is colorless and transparent and is typically used in applications requiring optical transparency.

  • Heat and cold resistance: PDMS has good thermal stability and can operate stably over a wide temperature range.

  • Biocompatibility: Due to its inertness and low toxicity, PDMS is widely used in biomedical applications.

  • Wide range of applications: PDMS is used in microfluidic chip manufacturing, sealing materials, coatings, cosmetics, food industry and many other fields.

What Is Polydimethylsiloxane Used For

  • Electronic and electrical industry: PDMS is commonly used in applications such as electronic plugs and insulating oils because of its good electrical insulation properties.

  • Microfluidics and biomedical field: Due to its excellent biocompatibility and breathability, PDMS is widely used in applications such as lab-on-a-chip and tissue engineering.

  • Cosmetics and personal care: In cosmetics, PDMS is used as a softener and emulsifier in hair conditioners and skin care products because it provides a smooth feel and good spreading effect.

  • Industrial Lubrication and Mold Release: PDMS is used as a lubricant and mold release agent because of its chemical inertness and low surface tension, which effectively prevents adhesion.

  • Coatings and Surface Treatments: PDMS is used in coatings to improve surface smoothness and chemical resistance. It is also used in coatings for cookware such as non-stick pans.
